
Currently, I am volunteering at White Plains Hospital in the Food and Nutrition Department. I am learning a lot about what it takes to be a dietitian. When I first started, I was fortunate to volunteer in the kitchen under Chris L’Abbate, who was very patient with me and explained the flow of the kitchen. I helped with setting up the trays according to ticket orders. I also helped with distributing the trays and interacting with patients, making sure that the food served was satisfactory. It was amazing to see how much is involved in keeping the kitchen running – and patients happy. I was also lucky to volunteer with the Certified Dietary Manager, Sarah Cunningham. I helped her prepare and analyze the nutritionist performance monthly reports. The reports summarized how many patients were consulted in a month, the reason for the consult and how much time was spent with each patient. Working with the data helped me to understand the daily routine of a clinical dietitian. When I learned that the White Plains Hospital Food and Nutrition Department is run by Sodexo, it solidified my intention to apply for Sodexo internship
